Golfing in Dublin
For an island of its size, Ireland both North and South, offers more golf courses than any country of comparable size on the planet. In fact, you will find 40 per cent of the world’s links courses in Ireland. What’s more, all of them are accessible to the visiting golfer, many of which are incredible value; for example, green fees on parkland courses can begin at around €10 – €16.
One of the most challenging courses in Ireland, the K Club in County Kildare, is to play host to the 2006 Ryder Cup. Ireland’s second oldest golf club, Royal Dublin Golf Club, is an impressive site tucked into the taxing wild and windswept Bull Island. A spectacular golf links course and six-time host of the Irish Open, it’s been played by some of the golf world’s biggest names.
Further north, around Dublin Bay, are two exceptional golf courses. Portmarnock Golf Club was founded in 1894 and ranks as one of the best links in the world. Not far is Portmarnock Golf Links, which is younger but equally challenging.
